From the Shadows

Another of my favourite pieces. A personal project to develop my skills with short fur. This was a very time-consuming process as I really wanted to paint a high level of detail. It took a lot of patience as there is a lot of layering in the process from the dark fur near the skin to the lighter golden colour that we associate with lions. Although it took twice as long to paint, I love the realistic results. With so much detail on the face, I wanted a simple backdrop for the lion and so keeping to the colour palette introduced a dusty brown into the background, keeping all focus at the front.

Another acrylic on canvas piece, that took a little over five days to paint.
